One Shirt, Four Ways: Quinn + Fox

Probably the coolest tee to ever be designed for kids is Quinn +Fox's infamous "Messy Hair Don't Care" tee. It is so cool, and in such high demand, that it is completely sold out on their online shop. However, if you want to get your hands on it click on the "stockists" link, and a few retailers are still selling them. I went ahead and checked it out for you, and it looks like Urba Baby has these available to purchase, HOORAY! Rumor has it, that for SS14 Quinn + Fox will be releasing a version of this tee in a new color!! Double HOORAY!

Kids have the coolest bed head, and can rock the messy hair better than anyone,so why not brag about it on a tee.  This tee is so killer I  have put together 4 different ways your little ladies can wear it. I think that when most people think of styling a tee, they think pair it with leggings and jeans, and voila. I look at a tee like a basic white top, and think what I would want to pair it with. For me seer suckers, a high waisted skirt, or a bright colored boyfriend cardi all pair back great with a plain tee. Find a color that you love, and look for pieces that compliment that color. Without further ado, here are some fabulous versions of how to style the "Messy Hair Don't Care" tee.

The "girly" girl
Tee Quinn + Fox / Bow Potluck Store /
Glasses Gap Kids/ Skirt Dandylion Co/ Moccs Freshly Picked

The "boho" babe
Tee Quinn + Fox / Headwrap Ivory Kate /

The "Chill" Chickee
Tee Quinn + Fox / Cardigan Target /
Bow Giddy Up and Grow / Shorts Gap Kids

The "Rockin" Tot
Tee Quinn + Fox/ Headwrap Crew + Lu /

Although today was for the ladies, I love this tee so much, I just may come up with four ways for your little dudes to style it in the very near future!

Have a Messy Day! (In a rockin way!)

Melissa

Black, White, and Gold All Over

Today's Obsession: Black, White, and GOLD! The other day I wrote about sticking to classics during the "off season", such as black and white. These two non colors look clean, cool, and crisp when paired together, or even by themselves. I even love mixing different black and white prints together. Just the other day Stella wore a black and white polka dot blouse, and black and white floral print leggings, which went together in such a cool and unexpected way. I loved the way her outfit turned out but I felt like it was missing something. That something was gold!  A pair of gold ballet flats or a little gold headband would have brought a little bit of glitz and glam to this "classic" get up.

In honor of my obsession I have a round up to help add this striking color combo into your littles wardrobes.  From glittery berkenstocks, gold polka dot leggings, and a cool "poodle tee" from Little Marc Jacobs, there are plenty of ways to style your babes in black, white, and gold all over!

Can we just talk a second about the leather black and white stripe bow (number 4) with the sparkly gold elastic from Little Kate Designs. Enamored doesn't even begin to describe how much I love this. Your little can rock this bow with the simplest black tee and look like the coolest girl at the playground. It's just the most perfect bow ever.

Girls aren't the only ones who can work a little gold in their wardrobe! A gold bow tie, like this chevron one from The Sprouted Arrow, would look rad paired with a black screen tee and loose fitting jeans. Gold Moccs are also an easy and cool way to incorporate a little gold in to your littles outfit. How beautiful are the "Honey Dots  and Milk" limited edition Moccs from FAAS design?!! I mean... Seriously? Dying! Death by Moccassin cuteness.

Loving this color combo as much as me?? Here are three fun ways moms can enjoy it too!

How adorable is this heart garland from Land of Nod This would look beautiful hanging from your mantle for a modern Valentines Day decoration.

These prints from Amanda Catherine Design are a cheerful way to decorate your office or photo collage wall. She has the cutest shop of prints to choose from whatever your style.

Get organized in 2014! This planner from Kate Spade is a sleek way to stay on top of your busy schedule.

That's it for today! Stay golden friends.

Melissa

Instagram Inspires

These days cell phones and social media get a bad wrap. Sure, there are days where I probably spent a little too much time pinning interior design inspiration for the dream home I don't yet have, and commenting on all the quirky Facebook statuses I see on my news feed, but the truth is I think social media has brought us fun ways to communicate and inspire each other.

My most favorite social media outlet is definitely Instagram. I love seeing the adorable pictures of my friends kiddos, the fabulous outfit choices for a day at the office, and the fun ways my friends get festive for the holidays. Yes a few of us go a little Insta overboard (myself included, which I'm trying better to edit, haha!), but overall Instagram is such a fun way to pass the leftover time on your lunch break, or during our babies nap times.

Instagram has become more than just a means of entertainment. From shopping, styling, and saving IG has it all. For my fellow IG lovers, I have narrowed it down to 5 Instagram pages you must follow!

1) Favorite Blooger @thealisonshow
I know the world has claimed Jennifer Lawrence as "America's sweetheart" due to her hilarious commentary and funny personality. Alison Falkner of "The Alison Show" would have to be the blogger version of J.law. She is funny, crafty, stylish, and of course a fabulous mommy. I mean her kids nickname is Mr. Rad.... need I say more?

2) Best Eye Candy @glitterguide
The glitterguide is a beatifiul page chalk full of sparkle, pink, makeup, and all things girly. Just one minute on her page and I feel like I am in a Barbie wonderland, and I mean that in the best way possible.

3)Best Kids Fashion @babiekinsmag
This page is from a magazine for the "trendsetting child" called Babiekinsmag. They feature beautiful editorials, style inspiration, and fashion news for the littles.

4)Best Kids Style @candiceappel
This mom of three beautiful daughters can style her kids better than anyone. Her little girls are always rocking the most unique, and beautiful duds, and their closets are the envy of most kids and adults. Trust me on this one, she is totally fab!

5) Best Savings @brickyardbuffallo
Everyone loves a deal, and this online pop-up shop brings you trendy, and fabulous items at a discount price. You can find out about their deals by following their IG page. They have hosted pop up deals for Dandylionco., Little Kate Designs, and Tiny Bandits kids, just to name a few.

Do yourselves a favor, and follow these five shops for a little daily inspiration and fun.

Be inspired friends.

Yours truly,
Melissa

Chic in Chambray

I always struggle with what to wear in January. We are finished with the glitz and glam of the holidays, yet it's not quite time to bust out the pretty pastels for spring. So instead of forfeiting January, choose classics such as clean crisp button downs, black & white outfit combos, and DENIM!

It just so happens that chambray is a huge trend in kids clothing right now. Every shop has different versions of the classic fabric. Don't be afraid to pair some of these pieces together. A little denim on denim , aka. the "Canadian tuxedo", looks great on littles. You can even pair a denim shirt like the one from Sovereign Code, with a pink tutu and brown boots for a rustic turned feminine look.

If you would prefer to add just a little chambray to your wardrobe, these chambray polka dot flats from Old Navy are beautiful with the silver sparkle toe. I wish they came in my size!! I'm also completely obsessed with this denim crown from Moocos Etsy Shop. How cool would your little prince look with this denim crown, a fun screen tee, and printed leggings.

Can't wait to start shopping? Simply click on the name, and you will be linked to the page.

Here are a few of Stella's best denim moments....

One week old rocking the "Demi" bow from Birdie Baby Boutique with a frilly white onsie from Pumpkin Patch

Stella's version of the "Canadian Tuxedo" denim tunic and leggings from Carters.

Shed those Monday blues with a different kind of blues... DENIM!

Shop Spotlight: Wild Things Dresses

So tonight I watched Shark tank, and was completely inspired by this amazing designer named Susan Peterson of Freshly Picked Moccs. I have always been a fan of her designs, and think her Moccs are fantastic! What was so impressive, was to hear her story on how she built her company with literally nothing but frames from windows, which she sold for $200, to buy fabric to make her Moccs. She has now built her business to $500,000 in sales in just this year. She made a great deal on Shark Tank with entrepreneur Daymond John, which is sure to take her business to extraordinary levels.

In honor of her inspiring small business story, I have decided to dedicate Saturdays to "Shop Spotlights", in which I will share an inspiring small business with my readers. Today my first Shop Spotlight is about a designer named Kirsty Hartley, who is the designer of a fun kids clothing shop called "Wild Things Dresses". Her shop is based in England, however us here in the states can easily shop her collection through her shop on Etsy.

The Wild Things Dresses shop is full of playful pinafores, animal hats and even teepees!!! Layer the dresses with colorful "Peter Pan" collared shirts, and patterned tights for a fun and funky outfit. This mom of three turned clothing designer is "inspired by the simplicity of Scandanavian design, and 60s and 70s styling" as per her Etsy bio.

Wild Things dresses was ranked #6 on Babble.coms top 50 Etsy shops for kids.

I love these playful animal costumes. Your little one will have a blast playing dress up, and roaring like a bear, or squeaking like a mouse!

Even your little raccoons can get in on the act with their creative selection of dungarees.

Check out all the adorable duds at https://www.etsy.com/shop/wildthingsdresses

You can also follow the shop on Facebook and Twitter.

I hope you enjoyed my first Saturday Small Shop Spotlight!!!

Melissa

Yankee Doodle Dandy

As promised, today is all about the little Indians playmate... The Cowboy! There was a time in my life where I was obsessed with all things country. I attended the very first "Stagecoach" festival, and saw George Strait in front row. My closet consisted of eyelit, cowboy boots, and anything with a horseshoe. Although my lifestyle isn't surrounded around western flair anymore, I will always have a soft spot for country.

When I think of Cowboy style I think of denim, cow print, bandanas, plaid, and horseshoes! Today's line up for your littles Yankee Doodles consists of all of the above!

1. Peek Kids "Santiago" Shirt (www.nordstrom.com)
2. Happy Abby (www.etsy.com)
3. Nordstrom "Cassidy" Boot (www.nordstrom.com)
4.Love Adellaide (www.etsy.com)
6. Sugarplum Lane Baby Boutique (www.etsy.com)
7. Baby Gap (www.gap.com)
8.Daisy Loise (www.etsy.com)

First on the roundup is this adorable plaid shirt from Peek kids. Sized for your little ranchers, it will fit baby 0 to 3 months to 18 to 24 months. Pair this with a pair of wranglers and your little man will be ready to "Cowboy Up!"

Seriously, how adorable is this "Toy Story Jessie" inspired peg doll. Your little lassie will love playing with this mini wooden doll measuring 3" tall. Peg dolls are great to use as cake toppers or decorations! Other peg dolls in her shop include the Hulk, a vampire, and an amazing Wizard of Oz set to name a few. The designer of these pegs dolls also doubles as a mom and children's author. What a creative mommy!

The Nordstrom "Cassidy" cowboy boot inspired by the fictional cowboy hero "Hopalong Cassidy", would look great on your kiddos for a day on the ranch. These faux leather boots come in red, metallic pink, and chocolate, and will fit kids of all sizes from toddler to big kid.

Next up is this fantastic head wrap to accessorize your little cowgirls. You can purchase on their Etsy shop for just $3.95! Such a steal!!! Pair this with the denim dress for baby gap and a pair of cowboy
boots and your little lady is ready for a line dance lesson. The ruffle chambray dress from baby gap fits babies 12 to 18 months, to a toddler size 5.

I'm seriously obsessed with Mini Melissa shoes! These Mary Janes a adjourned with the cutest little cow face, which is perfect for your country gal. Mini Melissa shoes all are fruit scented, which your kids will love!

Leggings are a huge trend in kids apparel, and from the looks of it aren't going anywhere any time soon. Kids are comfortable while playing in them, and seriously look adorable in the different prints and patterns. These horseshoe leggings are designed by a very talented Etsy shop called Sugarplum Lane Baby boutique. These horseshoe print will be "retiring" soon, so get your hands on them while you can! You can get them in Newborn to size 3T, and they come in two different "fits". Regular tight leggings, or sweat pants style.

Chances are your little country kid loves country music like their Mommy and Daddy! Have them rock their favorite Western star on a tee or a onsie from Daisy Loise. Featured is one of the coolest country singers, Waylon Jennings. Other country screens include Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, and Hank Williams.

Giddy up, Cowboy Up, and Enjoy your Friday Friends!

Yours Truly,
Melissa

"One little, Two little, Three little Indians"

One of my favorite things about being a Mom, is playing with your child. I definitely believe in teaching your children discipline, manners, and how to be a productive member of society, but I try not to take myself too seriously. I think playing with your child, and teaching them love, laughter, and imagination is MORE important than anything.

When on Pinterest I see a lot of images of kids looking like little mini adults, which I have to admit is pretty adorable. One thing I try to remember when I am dressing Stella, however, is that she is a child, and she only gets to be a child once, so her style should reflect a childhood state of mind.  We have our whole lives to dress like adults, so why not let your littles play a little dress up in their "every day attire".

One of the most adored child "dress up games" is Cowboys and Indians. In today's post I found some adorable pieces that your littles can wear and use in their every day lives, and feel like a little Indian when they hit the playground, the grocery store, or your local library.

1. Land of Nod Teepee (www.landofnod.com)
2. Leilalou "Tallulah" Doll (www.etsy.com)
3. Gingham by Sovereign Code Chambray Shirt (www.nordstrom.com)
 4. Mason and the Tambourine TeePee No. 1 Leggings
(www. Masonandthetambourine.com/products)
5. Zen Threads"Headdress" tee (www.etsy.com)
6. Freshly Picked Red Rock Suede Moccs (www.freshly-picked.com)
 7. Potluck Store "Woodland a hair Clip" (www.etsy.com)
8. Joey Jellybean Tee Pee Bandana Bib (www.joeyjellybean.com)

So grab your feather headpieces, put up a teepee, and pull out your play tomahawk for a day of fun. For mom "brownie points", teach your littles about our Native Americans during your play sesh. If they aren't quite old enough to comprehend a history lesson, sing the classic song, "One little, two little, three little Indian, four little, five little six little Indian." It's sure to be a day full of fun, play, and great playful style.

Stay tuned for a playmate style board, where I round up some great "cowboy/cowgirl" finds!

Big chief says HOW!

Melissa

Toes in the Sand

This past weekend, we enjoyed a beautiful day on Balboa Island, which is located in Newport Beach, CA. Last Summer, Stella was still just a baby and had the fairest skin, so we did not venture out to the beach that often. After this weekend's trip, I know that this summer is going to be a completely different story. As soon as Stella's feet hit the sand, she had a huge smile from ear to ear that never left her face. From chasing the seagulls, to digging her hands in the sand, to literally running into the cold ocean water, Stella was in a euphoric state.

I hope this beautiful early summer is here to stay, because I can't wait for another day to dig my toes in the sand with Stella.

Beach Bound Babes : Part 3 Preppy

If your little man looks great in polos and plaid, and your little lady loves pearls and sweater sets, this post is for your polished little "Preps". Some of the best dressed style icons have dressed in preppy style, such as Audrey Hepburn and JFK. By sticking with classics, and steering clear of trends, they always looked well put together and timeless.

When styling, I like to use different scenarios, and put myself in the shoes of who I am styling.  For today's post I asked myself, "What would I want to wear sailing in Maryland?"  I saw myself wearing classic khaki shorts, a red stripe pullover, some Sperrys, and a bucket hat. Voi la, I have inspiration for the mini versions of Harvard law students.

Fashion Creds:
1. Mini Boden (www.nordstrom.com) 2. Janie and Jack (www.janieandjack.com)
3. Baby Gap (www.babygap.com) 4. Circo/ Target (www.target.com)
5. Hello Apparel (www.hellomerch.com/collections/hello apparel)
6. Janie and Jack (www.janieandjack.com) 7. Mini Boden (www.bodenusa.com)
8.  Sperry Top-Sider (www.nordstrom.com) 9. Baby Gap (www.babygap.com)

Starting off my shopping favorites is this Mini Boden one piece. Nothing is more classic than a one piece racerback bathing suit. This "hopscotch" swimmer features a playful print of 1920s swimsuit wearing ladies and gents, beach balls, and sail boats. This swimmer is available in sizes little girl 4-5 to big girl 9 to 10.

There is nothing cuter than a little girl wearing sunglasses, with a big smile on her face. These yellow polka dot sunnies, are featured in Janie and Jacks "Seaside Chalet" collection, and are sure to bring a grin to her face. The rounded curves give the glasses a retro appeal, and they feature flexible rubber ams, which make them more comfortable for your littles to wear. Pair these sunglasses with solid dark colors, to really make the bright yellow accessory pop!

Speaking of retro, this Baby Gap swimmer looks straight out of a 1920s swim catalogue. The little flutter sleeves, and classic white trim give the suit feminine and nautical details. Accessorize this swimmer with a retro swimming cap to give your little lady extra style points. This suit is for infants girls 0 to 3 months, to 18 to 24 months.

If preppy fashion is what you seek, nobody does it better than Janie and Jack for your little ones. I was introduced to this store from my completely adorable one year old baby cousin named Montgomery James (he already sounds like a future President, right?) He has the most fantastic preppy style, and can rock a polo, and a sweater vest like nobody's business. I am now completely hooked on this luxury store when shopping for special occasion, and unique pieces. This striped straw sun hat is again part of their "Seaside Chalet" collection, and fits 0 to 6 months, to size 8. You can complete the ensemble with a matching stripe terry dress found also found on their website.

One of the coolest up and coming clothing lines is a brand called Hello apparel, which is based out of Arizona. Known for their signature "hello" logo, which they screen on raglan sweaters, tote bags, tees, onesies, and now pillows, the apparel line has something for everyone in your family! This hello anchor onsie is perfect for your preppy babe to sport as they head out for a day on the yacht.

Next up is this adorable bucket hat that could work for both boys and girls! Great for keeping the sun out of their eyes, and sunburns off their face, this classic preppy accessory will complete your little ones swimwear ensemble. I found this particular navy bucket hat at Target for just $3.50 on their website. It comes in four different colors, white, navy, turquoise, and pink azalea.

If you haven't noticed, I might be a tad obsessed with Mini Boden. I love their bright colors, and playful prints! Their designs are unique, and the quality superb!  Preppy fashion usually comes in few prints such as argyle, and plaid, but I love stripes for a "beachy" preppy look. This red and white stripe tee has the coolest crab appliquĂ© on it, that your sweet boy will look great in while building sandcastles in the sand. Called the "seaside t-shirt" you can find on Mini Bodens website, and fits babies 0 to 3 months to toddlers 2 to 3 years.

When I think of preppy footwear I immediately think of Sperrys boat shoes! While these are a must have for Mommy, Daddy, and Kid, these sandals by Sperry Top-Sider are great to wear when hitting the water. This is the ultimate preppy sandal, and fits boys 2 years old to 12 years old. (Size 6) you can find them on www.nordstrom.com

Rounding up our shopping guide are these "skipper" board shorts from Baby Gap. Sized to fit your toddler boys, these are perfect to wear for a day of boating. Whenever I see a yellow and navy stripe I think of rugby ( another notoriously popular preppy sport).  For more preppy inspiration see Prince William, Ralph Lauren, Jacqueline Onassis, and a modern approach "Gossip Girl" character Blair Waldorf.

I have finally finished this three day round up of Beach Bound Babes. Hopefully, you have enjoyed my shopping finds, and have found inspiration when styling your littles this summer! (Or winter if you live in Southern California).

Toddles Friends!

Yours Truly,
Melissa

Beach Bound Babes : Part 2 Surf

Growing up in Southern California I have always been surrounded by "surf" style, and embraced it as part of my own style. Every summer when I was younger,  most of my days were spent laying out on the beach, shopping on Main Street, and hanging out with friends at bonfires in Huntington Beach (also known as surf city USA). When I think of surf style I think of cutoff shorts, bohemian blouses, maxi dresses, vintage patterns, flip flops, and in one word, effortless.

Whether you live in Southern California and have worn Roxy or Quiksilver all your life, or you live in Nebraska and are headed to Hawaii for vacation, my go to guide will make it easy for your littles to chill out, relax, and put their toes in the sand, and look great while doing it.

1. Carters 2. Peek Kids 3. Tiny Bandits 4. Carters 5. Tastefully Mismatched
6. Carters 7. Carters 8. Wildfox Kids 9. Roxy

After shopping different sites for hours, and started to edit my board, I started to notice a theme. I was drawn to this beautiful and subtly bright color palette of coral, aqua, and neutrals. These colors remind me of surf style, because they are bright without being loud, and reminiscent of the ocean, sunset, and sand.

Carters, surprisingly, beat out other popular surf brands when I was editing my board. Since four of their items made it to my favorites,  I'm going to start with all things Carters.  The board shorts for toddler boys, and baby boys are so rad! The color blocked colors look a little washed and worn for that easy going "surf" style appeal. You can nab these for just $21 right now, as they are having a pretty awesome sale for MLK weekend.

Next on the Carters line up is this mini fedora for little bettys. Keep the sun out of their eyes with this stylish braided fedora hat, that has the cutest girly ribbon detail. If you check out their website they also have some fedoras for your little dudes as well.

Next up are these super cool orange flip flops with waves on the feet. I love that they have a heel closure, because for your newest walkers, flip flops are a little difficult to walk in, and you want your little bros to be able to run around and have a good time, just look good while doing so. Right now you can grab these flip flops and another pair for just $6! That's right, you heard me correctly, two pairs of sandals for $6, making them $3 each! I know you budget watching moms will appreciate that one.

Rounding up the Carters finds is this ruffle detailed tankini. I absolutely adore this ocean print with the soft coral, aqua, and yellow hues. Your little bra will look adorable splashing around the coastline in this number. Sized for toddler girls and babies, and also included in Carters MLK sale. You can shop their swimwear collections now at (www.carters.com/ )

If you have been reading my blog, you might see that a lot of my favorites come from peek kids. This line was co founded by a mom of three, who exclusively sold the collection through her own website and boutique shops, until 2010, when the line announced its partnership with Nordstrom, where you can now also shop the collection.  The quality of peek kids is kids is fantastic, and I particularly love their tees! Most tees will start to fade after wash, and tend to become stiff. All of Stella's tees from Peek have lasted for months, and keep their original color, and softness. This surf tee you can pick up right now in their baby sale section. Other surf tees and thermals to note include "hanging loose", "in surf we trust", and "dude" located in the boys section on their website (www.peekkids.com)

Can we just stop for a second, and swoon over these wood Sunnies from Tiny Bandits, seriously DYING! I came across this shop the other day when I was shopping for deals on brickyard buffalo (an online pop up market that showcases individual companies, and their freshest items). These Sunnies from from Tiny Bandits are the coolest accessory for your little surfer dude. These real wood frames remind me of the iconic surf car, a Woody! They come in the mirrored blue lens for your bolder little guys,  or a brown lens if your prefer a more neutral tone. Check them out now at (www.tinybandits.com).

Anybody who knows me, knows I'm a fanatic for shopping on etsy. During my wedding planning days, I found the coolest unique details to add to the decor, and when I found out I was pregnant, it became a serious obsession. The other day, when I was checking out etsy for surf style finds this " Whatever Dude" banner popped up on my home page, and I just had to include it! Maybe your little ones birthday is coming up this summer, and you are planning a surf side soirĂ©e, or your littles room
is full of "surf" style, this banner is the coolest little decoration. The shop on Etsy is called Tastefully Mismatched, where they make felt banners with the coolest slangs. From "Hey Pretty Lady", to "Lets Get Crazy" this shop has plenty of creative banners to choose from.

For you stylish moms who love Wildfox, there is now a Wildfox selection for your mini me. You can shop the collection at many different retail stores such as Saks, Kitson, and Bloomingdales. This tee I found on Nordstrom's website (www.nordstrom.com). This 70s heart tee is perfect for your little girl to wear while she is taking a stroll on the pier, and taking in some sunshine. Comes in "big girl" sizes, and in yellow as well as this "rosy cheeks" color.

Every beach babe needs a good pair of cut off shorts. These Roxy cutoffs are a great cover up for your teeny wahine to wear over their swimsuit. Roxy is known for their fantastic beach style, and surf trends, so if you are looking for more surf style for your ladies definitely check out their selection of flip flops, maxi dresses, and board shorts. (Www.roxy.com)

I hope you all are enjoying this beautiful three day weekend.

Aloha loves!

Yours truly,
Melissa

Beach Bound Babes: Part 1 Modern

Its a beautiful Saturday morning in Southern California. The forecast is for 84 degrees today, and will continue to be in the 80s throughout this holiday weekend. The only thing weird is, it's still January! I have daydreams of  what it would be like to build a snowman, have a snowball fight, and make snow angels with my little family. Looks like we won't be going to the snow this year, since the only snow in California is man made. So instead of trying to make winter happen, we have decided to embrace this gorgeous sunshine, and head down to the beach!

Most clothing lines have their Resort/ Pre-Spring collections already in stores by January, and their Main Spring collections should be available within the next month or so. I'm excited to share with you all my shopping finds, which I have broken into three different categories, "Modern", "Surf", and "Preppy" to choose from, based on your little ones style and personality.

Modern

1. Mini Boden 2. Hoy Shoe Saltwater Sandals
3. Little Hip Squeaks 4. Baby Gap 5. Hello Apparel
