Little Digs: Beck's Nursery

Never was there ever been a cooler newborn, than Beckham. Not only is his name shared with the coolest and most fashionable man in the world, but he has the chicest little digs I ever have seen. From a shag rug draped on his mother's rocking chair,  to a mobile made with feathers dipped in gold, to framed prints of the coolest music band whoever graced our radios, his nursery is the epitome of modern style.

When designing Beck's room, his mom Ashley wanted to create a room that was crisp, clean, and modern, (not your typical baby room). She purchased one item at a time over the course of her pregnancy and it all came together so perfectly. Crisp white drapes, and a basket weave light fixture create an airy feel to the room, making it a relaxing retreat for those late night feedings. Beck even has a pillow to wake up to reminding him of his handsomeness! Check out where you can find the details to Beck's room in the links below.

This mobile was a DIY creation by Beck's mom, Ashley. She used fishing wire, that she attached these gorgeous gold dipped feathers to, and hung them from branches. You can do this sweet little DIY by purchasing the branches and feathers from Etsy

Little Digs: Baby Jives Company

Oh Sweet Baby! Today I am sharing with you one of my favorite child's room decor shops, Baby Jives Company. Chances are you may have already heard of this fabulous shop as they have been featured in Babiekins Magazine, Today's Parent, Pregnancy & Newborn magazine, and just a little blog by Martha Stewart, you may or may not have heard of her? I stumbled across this shop a few months ago, when Babble listed Baby Jives as one of their Top 50 Etsy shops. They have since moved on, to their own gorgeous website, and have recently launched their new Spring/ Summer collection that not only includes gorgeous mobiles, but garlands, cards, and art prints as well!

Baby Jives Company started when Owner and designer Jahje Ives was pregnant with her first child, and designed a beautiful mural inspired by nature with the help of her husband. Right before her child came she designed a sweet little mobile, which was the beginning of this amazing company. I think it's so neat how our children awaken a new creative side in some of us mamas.

The mobiles are all designed by Jahje, and handcrafted one at a time with natural materials. You can truly see the love and care that is put into all of her items.

The mobiles designed by Baby Jives are meant to be used throughout your little's childhood. These heirlooms are special pieces of art, that your child is sure to enjoy for many years to come. Whether your nursery style is modern, whimsical, trendy, or shabby chic, Baby Jives has a mobile perfect for their room. A child's room should spark imagination and creativity, in which Baby Jives whimsical items are sure to promote. Shop all the special pieces in their shop here: Baby Jives Co.

That's all for this version of "Little Digs."

It's A Jungle In There : Little Digs

Pottery Barn Kids recently launched their new Summer collection, and everything is gorgeous... I know shocker! (everything is always so perfect) One of my favorite additions are these modern safari room decorations to create a jungle oasis in your child's room. Gorgeous beaded wild animal statues, a paper machet elephant head, and even a safari tent canopy bed are just a few of the new additions that will help create the perfect space for your wild ones. Add neutrals like rustic wood, and burlap, paired with bright orange accents, and the room will blend nicely. A soft grey painted wall will make the bold oranges and greens really pop!

Shop all my favorites for this Safari inspired Room at Pottery Barn Kids.

Welcome to Neverland

Today's post is inspired by Stella's new favorite movie, Peter Pan. We have been introducing her to new Disney movies over the last few months and so far her favorites are Monsters Inc, Tangled, Brave, and The Little Mermaid. Its so cute to watch her little reactions to the different scenes.  For instance, when the bears growl on Brave she starts yelling for them to stop or "No, no, no Aghhhh!!" or when "Under the Sea" comes on she starts a full on dance. One day we put on Peter Pan, and she was beyond mesmerized and completely hooked. I think at this point we are watching it at least once a day, every day (YES, I'm that mom who lets her kid watch tv)!

So since I am on Peter Pan overload at the moment, I started thinking how cool would it be to create a modern room inspired by Neverland. I think a child's room should incorporate the things they love, but be designed in a way that is still beautiful and encourages play and imagination. What kid wouldn't love to live in Nevetland?! (I mean, sign me up!)

Neverland, as depicted in Disney's Peter Pan (1953)

When looking for elements and decor for the room, I wanted to go with bold bright colors that would pop against a stark white room, which would make it modern and cool. I thought of the characters who live in Neverland like the Pirates, Lost Boys, and the Crocodile, and found fun decorative accents to incorporate them into the room. For instance the critter sleeping bags represent The Lost Boys costumes, and the toy pirate ship, which I would display on a dresser,  represents Captain Hook and his crew. Other fun characters include The Crocodile and The Indians, which play into the room with this play teepee, and crocodile bed sheeting.

Another fun way to create the Neverland theme without going overboard is to look for natural elements such as trees, rainbows, and stars in the same bold primary color theme to incorporate into the room. In the mood board you will see this gorgeous rainbow throw that would look fantastic on seating or the end of your child's bed. The rainbow represents the beautiful mermaid lagoon in Neverland. Peter Pan and The Lost Boys live in "Hangman's Tree", so I found this super cool "tree stub" side table from West Elm to include in the room.

As for art pieces to hang, this X Grow Up Print from Mini & Maximus is the hottest piece on the market, that represents what Neverland is all about! I also found some fun pieces on Etsy that you can frame in the room like the Modern Neverland Map.

Lastly I wanted to mention that I chose Bunk Beds in the room since that is the bed of choice for Pan and his buddies in the film. How great would this room be for kids that have to share a room? By using primary colors its also completely gender neutral, so it would work for a boy/ girl combo room.

So who wants to go to Neverland?! Here we gooooooooo!!

Little Digs: Stella's "Garden" Themed Room

When I started this blog, I knew I wanted to share all my passions. Fashion is of course my trade, and what I am professionally trained in, however I am extremely passionate about two other things: interior design and party planning. Today is our first interior design post, so I thought I would start with a room I actually designed, Stella's room.

When I found out I was having a girl, I was beyond thrilled.I knew I wanted her room to be pink, and full of all things girly! When designing her room, I came up with a garden-themed nursery deriving from her name. Stella is named after my husband's Grandmother Stella, and Rose for my Grandmother Rose. My Grandma Rose was a beautiful woman, who was always dressed in skirts, heels, and pearls, and lived in a pink house. So, naturally we painted her room pink, with "rose" details such as her rose encrusted lamp.

Stella's name is also derived from my favorite fashion designer Stella McCartney. (Again, I'm seriously obsessed with all things British).  When Stella McCartney is not sending down her amazing designs down the runway, her and her husband tend to their English Garden that surround their property. This inspired me to create a garden oasis in Stella's room, full of flowers, "greenery", birds, and butterflies. I even added sweet vintage inspired dolls that look like they are having a fabulous English Tea Party.

Many of Stellas pieces incorporated in her room are from Pottery Barn Kids. Some of these pieces are no longer available, so I have created a round up of items from their current shop, to help you get the "Garden" look.

A child's room is where memories are made and imaginations grow. It should be a place that is magical, yet comforting. Let it reflect their personality, and fill it with love.

I hope you have enjoyed this peek into Stella's room. I thought it only natural to share her room, as we add interior design ideas.  I'm so excited to add "Little Digs" as a category on the blog, that will be featured every other week. Stay tuned!

Melissa
