Birds of a Feather

Summer vacation is almost here, and we are dreaming of a tropical place. Somewhere the sun shines, the palm trees sway, and gorgeous colorful birds sing. Parrots, Toucans, and Cockatoos are just a few of the beloved birds you might find on your tropical oasis getaway, and in today's fashion round up. Even if you aren't headed to some paradise island, there is a fun trend this summer you and your little can enjoy that may take an afternoon in your backyard feel like an enchanted tiki room. From a cockatoo embellished romper for your little ladies, and toucan printed leggings for your boys, these birds of a feather will bring island sunshine to your summer days. Even mom can get in on the fun with these pink parrot printed sandals. Now just head to the backyard with some pineapple drinks, topped with paper umbrellas, and you have made your tropical daydream come true, whether you are in a big  city or a farm down south.

She was an American girl

Fourth of July has to be one of my FAVORITE holidays.I just love spending the day with family and friends, barbecuing , lighting up fireworks, and of course swimming! It's so hot in So Cal this time of year, that swim parties are the best way to spend the afternoon. This year is no different, as we plan to hang out with friends poolside.

If you and your family are planning on spending the 4th or Memorial Day splishing and splashing,  today's round up is for your little liberty ladies. There are so many adorable swimwear choices for your littles in red, white, and blue right now. I ordered Stella #10 in our round up for the 4th, and can't wait to see that adorable little firecracker in it. Which one is your favorite?

Lets go on a picnic...

The sun is shining, the grass is green, the flowers have blossomed. I would say its the perfect day to go on a picnic. One thing being a mom has taught me, is finding joy and happiness in the simplest pleasures. I would much rather be sitting on a blanket with fresh Italian deli subs with my family, than any five star steakhouse. When I think of an all American picnic, I think of baskets, gingham, and fresh cut fruit. Today's round up has everything you need for a picnic outing.  Even the ants are getting in on the fun!

Camo Cool

Trend Alert! Trend Alert! (Read in robotic voice). Today's round up features my favorite camouflage printed goodies for your kiddies (and one for mama too!). Perhaps this trend has sparked due to patriotism for our soldiers, or maybe it's our country's obsession with all things Duck Dynasty, but one things for sure, camo is everywhere and cooler than ever.

Camo print is a great neutral to pair with pretty much anything, and is a unisex print to be loved by the raddest boys and the coolest of the cool of girls. One of my favorite ways to style camo is with a cool cargo jacket, to wear over your favorite tee, or over a denim dress. Peek Kids has this awesome camo print jacket featured in the round up, that the tiniest of babies and preteens alike can add to their wardrobe. For you Mamas that want to get in on the camo action, this Mama Bear tank from Loved by Hannah and Eli  will look great paired with a pair of cutoff shorts and gladiators this summer. This tank is currently out of stock but should be back soon, so make sure to follow Loved by Hannah and Eli on Instagram for stock updates.

Speaking of out of stock, a few months ago Freshly Picked launched their beloved Camo Moccs that have been selling out at lightning speed each time they have announced their restock. (If you want in on a secret, it looks like they are in stock as Im writing this, so hurry, hurry!)  If you have been lucky enough to snag a pair, or hope to soon, finish the look with some camo print accessories like some camo print aviators, bows, or a slouchy beanie, featured in the round up from some of my favorite shops. For you beach goers, Osh Kosh even got in on the trend with their camo print inspired Birkenstock sandals. I just love the versatility of these.

If you're a little crazy for camo too then this round up is just for you!

Salt City Carnival Must Haves

It's officially my birthday week!! I literally have two more days left of my twenties (sigh, tear, cheers! ) So to celebrate this new era, I have decided to disclose a little bit more about me this week.

For today, I am going to pull back just one little layer, and let you all know that I am a horror movie buff. I know, so deep, but honestly I love scary movies! So much so, that when I was on bed rest during my pregnancy, and every once in awhile during afternoon nap times, I will watch horror movies on Netflix and direct tv in broad daylight, since my husband refuses to watch any type of horror film (such a scaredy cat.)

Three years ago television spoke to me, and brought me the absolute best series ever "American Horror Story",  which I watch incessantly. If you haven't heard the new season premiering this fall is going to be dedicated to "Freak Shows", aka. Carnivals. I am so incredibly excited, it's going to be phenomenal!

One day while researching new children's lines, I stumbled upon Salt City Emporium and their circus loving Spring line, which instantly caught my "Carnie-loving" attention. This spring season their entire children's line is inspired by vintage circus freaks in their "Salt City Carnival" collection. Embellished with iconic circus characters such as, bearded ladies, a leotard wearing Strong Man, and ring masters. The collection is playful, unique, and a little bit creepy (which I mean in the absolute best way possible). This summer Stella will absolutely be joining the carnival....  the Salt City Carnival that is!

See my favorites below!

Suns Out Guns Out

Why hello heat!! With summer just around the corner, and super hot temps hitting So Cal, I'm in a "Suns out, guns out" kind of mood. When it's hot out, the only way to keep cool is with a tank top, and in today's round up I have tanks that will not only keep your kids cool but stylish as well. Click on all the below links for easy shopping!

We all absolutely have to get our hands on the Tiny Whales April tee shirt of the month tank (#7). This Popsicle I'm Cool tank was designed by Sean Mort, the guest designer of the month. This is the perfect tank for those hot summer days, which both boys and girls can enjoy. Definitely my favorite of the round up. If your babe is a doodler this doodle tank from Mini & Maximus (#3) will be the perfect addition to their summer wardrobe. Or if your babe loves to be outside playing basketball, this fun "I wish I was a little bit taller" tank (say that without singing... You can't huh?) is the coolest tank while your kiddos hit up the court. I don't know know how Im going to narrow it down, because each tank is just as cool as the next.

Which one is your favorite?

7. Tiny Whales  | 8. Bobo Choses  | 9. Gap Kids |

Stay cool, and let those guns out!

Flamingo Frenzy

Today I have a round up featuring my absolute favorite trend for spring... Flamingos!!! These leggy pink birds are popping up everywhere from dresses and leggings, to bows and room decor. Even Moms can get in on the trend in this "Flamingo Frenzy" round up.

When  I think of flamingos I immediately think of sunshine and summertime. Their bright pink feathers exude happiness, and make them a favorite among kiddos and mamas alike. This summer add some flamingo fun to your littles wardrobe with unique prints of our feathered friends, like these organic printed leggings from Vivie and Ash. These would look great paired with a cool screen tee, or a chambray button down. An easy go to for your every day summer activities. For your girly girls this handmade cotton dress from one of my favorite shops Vivi's Jewels is the perfectly pretty twirly for all your summer parties.

Other fun ways to get in on the trend is by adding flamingo embellished room decor to your child's room. One of my favorite places to shop for kids is without a doubt Pottery Barn Kids. This summer flamingos are everywhere in their new collection. This fabulous beaded nightlight is just one of many new flamingo loving styles.

Flamingos aren't just for the girls, as Volcom has added these flamingo prints to their boys summer time collection of board shorts, tanks, and this baby blue button down featured in our round up.

Lastly I didn't forget about you Moms! If you want in on the flamingo frenzy Toms has the perfect canvas shoe adourned with the raddest flamingo stencil. Are these not the coolest ever?

Hey Cat Ladies (and Men), today's round up is purrrr-fect for you! If your kiddo is anything like Stella, they are completely amazed by their kitty cat. Not only are they beautiful animals, but they are  full of curiosity, a little bit sassy, and undeniably cool, kind of like our kiddos! Some of my favorite designers have adourned their newest styles this season with our beloved furry friends. Rompers, tees, handbags, and even wall art feature the chicest animals around.

I have been loving all the edgy cat designs from Beau Loves this season , and this one piece jumper is truly the coolest.  One of the cats even has a superhero mask on, can you say Ah-doable! Another  cat loving one piece  jaw dropper is this Mini & Maximus "cat party romper". That's a party I definitely want to crash.

Finish your cat woman baby style with this retro print Cat Bow from the Potluck Store (one of my faves), and this gorgeous knitted cat purse from Hello Dear Kids (handmade with love from a shop in South Korea, featured on Etsy). If you really want to show your cat loving pride, grab this stylish "I Like Cats" print from Little Island  Company to frame and hang in your child's room. These silly cats making all kinds of fun faces have a crisp modern style, yet silly enough to always bring on a smile when gazing upon.  This shop also has this fantastic print avaiable to order in a tee, onsie, and even adult apparel.

Bundle in Style

Okay the super exciting news is out! Two of my very best friends, who just happen to be sisters, are expecting baby boys this Summer, and I am beyond thrilled! I can hardly wait to hold these little babes in my arms. Something about me you might like to know is that I have a groups of five friends that are truly a second family to me. We have literally grown up together, and been in each others lives for decades. Over the past two years we have welcomed four sweet babies into our world, and now there will be six. I feel so blessed to have such a supportive and fun group of friends in my life, and I feel even more blessed that Stella already has her own little group of friends to create memories with.

With the news of more babies I thought it was time to give some newborns some love on the blog. Today I am featuring seven of my favorite organic swaddling blankets available for your little bundles of joy.

I have featured Sugarplum Lane Boutique on here a number of times, and with their quality handmade products expect to see them featured quite a bit. They truly are the leaders of the pack when it comes to gold details, and this swaddling and knot hat set is just that, golden. Makes for a beautiful and dreamy newborn set for a photography session.

A very popular and in demand shop for kiddos is Miss J Handmade. Kailee Wright, the designer and owner for the company is a SoCal local and Mom to three little ones. She makes a variety of prints for her blankets, but this black and white"English Rose" takes the cake. Made with a soft cotton-blend, it is sure to be one of your favorite go to swaddles on an every day basis, because black goes with everything, right?

The next three shops are up and coming Etsy shops with some of the coolest organic blankets. The custom personalized blanket from Simply Boco Baby are a total must have and would make a great gift at a baby shower or a "sprinkle". How sweet to be wrapped up in your well thought out name. Lola and Stella's coral triangle blanket is the perfect unisex piece that works in both spring/ summer and fall. There are even the cutest leggings, and knotted headbands if you want to create a full head to toe look in this super cool print. Modfox's Rainbow Stripe blanket is too stinking cute! I've been on a rainbow kick lately, and this swaddle seems to have a cool vintage 70s style to it. It's the perfect blanket to wrap your sunshine in!

Mod Fox

We are in for a treat with this awesome collab from House of Mia and Sophie & Lili. They have teamed up to bring us this modern / vintage floral pattern in this essential newborn kit. This lightweight blanket is made from 100% organic cotton jersey , and designed for durable use. The print also comes in leggings so even your big kids can enjoy.

House of Mia

Last but definitely not least comes from the coolest of the cool Little Hip Squeaks. This Moss green criss cross everything blanket is made with the upmost quality, and sure to be your favorite blankie to tot around for every day use. The moss criss cross print is exclusive to Little Hip Squeaks, and created though a hand silk-screened process. You can truly see the passion, and attention to detail in all the pieces in their shop. I highly recommend!

Little Hip Squeaks

Below is the round up with a quick link to each of the shops.

Although there is definitely no baby in the works for the Bruner family anytime soon, I am so tempted by all these gorgeous swaddling blankets! Maybe Stella will sit still for a few minutes for a quick swaddle and a cuddle?(psssh yeah right!)  Or maybe we can bundle her stuffed animals in these gorgeous blankies during playtime?

I just know I need these gorgeous swaddles in my life AND so do you!

Bundle in Style.

Melissa

From lemons, pears, strawberries, to pineapples, whatever the fruit they are popping up in all kinds of fresh and fun styles this season.

It is probably the softest tee I've ever felt, and I just so happen to love The Beatles, so this tee is pretty much a dream come true.

Complete your fruit loving ensemble with this strawberry print headwrap from Free Babes. She has been making some waves with her free spirited bow designs, and I highly recommend her shop. Check out her dreamy feed out on Insta for fun giveaways and product announcements.

Superhero Syle

It's a bird! It's a plane! No,  it's.... SUPER KID!!! Today I've got a round up for all those cape wearing, sofa flying, laser loving miniature sized superheroes in your life. For the fan girls and boys there are so many fun ways to incorporate their love for superheroes into their every day style. I'm sorry but a toddler boy in a cape attached tee gets me every time! There is nothing more fun when you are little than to play dress up, so when it's not appropriate to wear the muscle clad wolverine costume, I bring you some casual and cool ways for your littles to feel like a superhero when they are hitting the playground or going out to dinner at a restaurant. I mean you never know when a job might call, so they've gotta be ready.

With superheroes being so popular, your kid is sure to have the same Batman tee from target that 20 other of his friends have. Don't get me wrong I love Target. But sometimes kids want to feel special, and have something unique! Some of my favorite brands like Kira and Stella McCartney Kids have fantastic versions of superhero tees that are sure to make a statement. The buster tee from Stella featured in the round up is for babies, however there is a short sleeve version for your tots and big boys.  With fun comic book slogans like "ZAP", "POW", and "EEP", you little superhero is sure to feel unstoppable rocking this tee. KaPow Kids has a similar print with their bandana bib style that I just can't get enough of. I think all bibs should be cut like this from here on out! Who says drool can't be cool? Okay and seriously you are going to die for number 6! I have seen these fantastic pair of pleather pants rocked by the coolest kids on IG, and cannot get enough of them. With the shiny black color, your boys will be looking slick and futuristic. Pair them back with a superhero screen tee, and your little has a new crime solving uniform. For the super girls of the world I found this Aaaaahdorable "Joy Doll" from Sophie & Lili. With Pink pigtails and skinny jeans, this crime fighting superdoll is bound to be attached to your little ones hip.

Funny Bunnies

Spring has sprung here in So Cal, and I couldn't be happier about it. The weather is absolutely perfect, gorgeous tulips and blossom trees are everywhere, and pretty pastels fill the clothing racks at my favorite stores. I love everything about Spring, including all the pretty animals coming out to play.

The iconic animal, and mascot of the season is the Bunny Rabbit. I remember when I was married on a beautiful spring day in May, little wild bunnies were hopping around the grounds, and they just added this sweetness to the day. Their fluffy cotton tails, long whiskers, and velvety ears make them one of the most adorable little animals.

The most famous spring bunny is definitely the Easter Bunny, who hops around each doorstep delivering baskets of joy to all the kiddos. I mean any animal who can hop around in a bow tie, and deliver toys and candy definitely deserves to be celebrated, right? So to show our love for these funny bunnies, I have a round-up of an adorable appliqué pinnie dress, a gorgeous handmade doll, a modern/ organic screen print tee of the main rabbit, and the sweetest cotton tailed wristlet to name a few. Links to all the shops below.

It's 8 am here in Southern Cali, and I am so excited to jump start your morning the best way possible; with ICE CREAM!

Oh, the sound of an ice cream truck making its way down your street, brings back some of the best memories of my childhood. No matter how crazy life gets, with work, school, doctors appointments, holidays, and birthday parties, you can always count on an ice cream cone, or a quick trip to the yogurt shop to bring a sweet moment to you and your child's day.

Adorable versions of this classic dessert are popping up in all kinds of fun ways for kids to enjoy in their daily lives.  A glittery hot pink ice cream cone headband from Giddy Up and Grow, is the perfect cherry on top of any outfit. For the boys, and hipster girls, there is a sorbet licking gorilla named Pete on this tee from Quinn + Fox. Faas Design makes some of the best moccasins around, in all kinds of beautiful colors, and prints. Mint is a key color this spring, so your little is sure to get plenty of use out of these moccs. Style a "skater girl" look with a pair of high tops, and a top knot. You can even bring the ice cream fun into your home with this gorgeous watercolor painting from Jo Jo La Rue, (Joanna), the artist, is based out of Boston, MA. Leprechaun Littles

Valentines Day has come and gone, so being the festive lady that I am, it's time to start prepping for the next holiday. Sure I am probably only about 1/20th Irish, but St. Patrick's Day is a fun holiday for the whole family to celebrate. There are so many fun crafts and food ideas to help you feel lucky this holiday. Im not the craftiest mom, so I usually look for fun ideas on Pinterest. Here are five of my favorite St Pattys Day pins:

Rainbow Pancakes make the perfect St Pattys breakfast meal

Lucky Charms and Green Milk for a fun treat.

Of course my favorite part about St Patty's is the outfit. Green is a must to remain pinch free, but other fun styling ideas include incorporating fun holiday symbols like gold, rainbows, shamrocks, and leprechauns.

One of my favorite pieces from the roundup is the rainbow tee from Peek Kids. It can be styled so many ways, like paired with a green tutu for your princess, or with a cool pair of skinnies and a green cardigan for your modern tot. No little lady's outfit is complete without the perfect Hair accessory. Choose a simple clip in like the shamrock bow from The Potluck Store, or opt for a decadent head piece like the "Luck of the Irish" headband from Birdie Baby Boutique.

One tee you can never go wrong with on St Pattys is a saying tee! This Kiss Me tee from Carters is a classic. Whether they are Irish or not, your little is sure to be showered with smoochies. This tee is easy on the wallet too! (On sale today for $6.00)

Accessorize your kiddos outfits with little splashes of gold to symbolize the pot of gold found at the end of a leprechauns rainbow. These gold moccs from Freshly Picked are the perfect lucky shoe for your lads and lassies.

If you are looking to give your little lucky charm a present, this rainbow stacker from Imagination Kids is the perfect gift. Handcrafted from harvested wood, and painted with non toxic paint, makes it safe for the littlest of hands to play with.

Tiny Team USA

The Winter Games are well under way, and what better way to root on our country than with rocking our country's colors?  Since we reside in LA, California we are rooting on Team USA all the way! As of this morning we have a total of 7 medals, two gold, one silver, and four bronze. This puts us in a tie for fourth place in the overall medal count. Time to pull out the red, white, and blue, and cheer our country on!

Right now there are a ton of great pieces for our tiniest of USA fans. With clothing line's spring/summer collections being launched you can always find some great nautical pieces that are great for every day, rooting on our Olympians, and patriotic holidays such as The 4th of July and Memorial Day.

Peek Kids even launched an entire collection for the Winter Games. This USA pullover is for babies and kids, and is completely gender neutral. This pullover would look great paired with some cutoff shorts and these flashy America sneakers from Xolo Shoes (Target).

Baby Gap recently launched a line called the "Paddington Bear" collection paying a sweet nod to the cutest raincoat wearing bear. It's is full of adorable red, white, and blue patterns like this ruffle sleeve dress. For your little ladies accessorize with the "Nautical Fabric Bows" from A Little Lady Shop, or my personal favorite, the  "Arden" bow from Birdie Baby Boutique, which Stella is wearing in the below photo.

Check out all the pieces on our "Tiny Team USA" round up, by clicking on the shop links.

Wild Things Make my Heart Sing

With The Jungle Book "Diamond Edition" DVD launching next week February 11th, I am feeling a little WILD!! If your little is a leader like Colonel Hathi, a protector like Bagheera, or wild like Mowgli, today's round up is filled with jungle loving finds.

Dress up isn't limited to princess dresses and tiaras. This lion mask from Opposite of Far is the perfect dress up item for your wild child. This shop specializes in mask and tail sets, and even has a mask of the month club where you will get a different wild animal mask every month such as a monkey, elephant, a toucan, a tiger, and a boa constrictor to name a few.

Safari style is so cool for kids because it is season and gender neutral. Almost all of these items can be enjoyed by both boys and girls, like the tiger print leggings from Sweet Kiddo Co. These are from their lion, tiger, and bear collection, made from organic cotton. How cute would these be to wear on a trip to the zoo? Pair with a screen tee like this "I'm a Wild One" from Sly Fox Threads, and your little will look like the King (or Queen) of the Jungle.

An easy way to add some wild to your child's outfit, is by accessorizing with animal prints. This fabulous leopard print head wrap from Baby Jules Boutique for your little ladies pairs with any color or print, as leopard prints are considered a neutral in the fashion world. For your little gentleman, how precious is this giraffe print bow tie from Amy 2004 Marie?? Even your little preppy can walk on the wild side by styling this bow tie with a denim shirt and a pair of khakis.

As you may or may not have guessed I'm a total Disney nerd. With the Jungle Book launching we have been singing "Bear Necessities" around the house non stop. For my other Disney lovers, this one is for you! The Disney Store just came out with all new Jungle Book Merchandise. Check it out here at The Disney Store. Below is a little glimpse of what they have.

Have a wild and crazy day friends!

Black, White, and Gold All Over

Today's Obsession: Black, White, and GOLD! The other day I wrote about sticking to classics during the "off season", such as black and white. These two non colors look clean, cool, and crisp when paired together, or even by themselves. I even love mixing different black and white prints together. Just the other day Stella wore a black and white polka dot blouse, and black and white floral print leggings, which went together in such a cool and unexpected way. I loved the way her outfit turned out but I felt like it was missing something. That something was gold!  A pair of gold ballet flats or a little gold headband would have brought a little bit of glitz and glam to this "classic" get up.

In honor of my obsession I have a round up to help add this striking color combo into your littles wardrobes.  From glittery berkenstocks, gold polka dot leggings, and a cool "poodle tee" from Little Marc Jacobs, there are plenty of ways to style your babes in black, white, and gold all over!

Can we just talk a second about the leather black and white stripe bow (number 4) with the sparkly gold elastic from Little Kate Designs. Enamored doesn't even begin to describe how much I love this. Your little can rock this bow with the simplest black tee and look like the coolest girl at the playground. It's just the most perfect bow ever.

Girls aren't the only ones who can work a little gold in their wardrobe! A gold bow tie, like this chevron one from The Sprouted Arrow, would look rad paired with a black screen tee and loose fitting jeans. Gold Moccs are also an easy and cool way to incorporate a little gold in to your littles outfit. How beautiful are the "Honey Dots  and Milk" limited edition Moccs from FAAS design?!! I mean... Seriously? Dying! Death by Moccassin cuteness.

Loving this color combo as much as me?? Here are three fun ways moms can enjoy it too!

How adorable is this heart garland from Land of Nod This would look beautiful hanging from your mantle for a modern Valentines Day decoration.

These prints from Amanda Catherine Design are a cheerful way to decorate your office or photo collage wall. She has the cutest shop of prints to choose from whatever your style.

Get organized in 2014! This planner from Kate Spade is a sleek way to stay on top of your busy schedule.

That's it for today! Stay golden friends.

Yours truly,
Melissa
